Uncle Gus
A sweet and generous man
Always willing to lend a helping hand
His whistle would always let you know
His good mood he would show
Sitting on the porch on a warm summer day
A bowl of cherries would disappear out of the way

Our fallen soldier,
battles through foreign countries,
mulitple doctors offices.
A smile through a dark storm...
Though blind to his crystal eyes
his golden heart led the way, provided light, aloowed him to see.
A beloved Husband, father, grandfather, "Gushead" neighbor and friend....
My Hero
And similar to me, few limitations existed between the thoughts running through his head, and the words taht spilled through his mouth.
Every Sunday he made his way to church, and had faith in the good Lord who ended his suffering at last.
"And the Lord said, my son, my precious child, during your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then I carried you."
While his feet were retired, the Lord carried his spirit as far as he did, not so that he was ready to go, but so the loved ones that Gus would leave hind, mourning on the cold earth, without his sunshine, could accept the fact that God had given him wings,
So that if indeed his tired feet still didn't work, at least now he could fly.
And then God gave him another gift he lacked on earth....
A view.
Over all those he wanted to protect.
He's watching over us now, and I realize his eyes were never broken....The distance and focus was just off.
They needed height.
They needed heaven.
A loving warrior until the end, and the final beat of the battle drums..Life on earth may have ended on that sad day,
But heaven awaits,
A greater Ultimate victory.
Sleep easy pap, I'm sorry I messed up your spidey hair...={ I just miss you thats all. Watch over all of us and take care of Grandmaa, she misses you like crazy already. I LOVE YOU FOREVER.

I would like to send my condolences to Aunt Mat and all of the family. I am so sorry for your beloved loss. I would like to comment on something that my sister said when we were little. When we were our family had to stay with Aunt Mat and Uncle Gus for couple weeks while we found a home for ourselves. And they opened their home to us even though there was five children, they made us all feel welcome and special. Uncle Gus would take us outside to play games with no care of anything but what was good for us kids. While his whistle was something that I remembered through my life, this is something special that he did for us kids. We all got in the living room and he said, "Ok kids, were gonna play a game," and while Aunt Mat and my mom were making dinner trying to stay out of the way, he said, "We're gonna all act like animals!" And we started to laugh and played the animal game in the living room. We were all had a blast. That was a special memory for me. Colleen
