Nick Ratkovich of MIDLAND

Nick Ratkovich, 82, of Midland, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Beaver Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, South Beaver. Born June 6, 1927, in Altoona, PA, he was a son of the late Matija and Petra Ratkovich, and had been a resident of Midland all of his life. He had retired from Crucible Steel, Colt Industries, Midland as a house operator, and was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served during WW II and the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, and the American Yugoslav Club, all of Midland. Surviving is his wife of nearly 36 years, Zorica (Kach) Ratkovich; six nieces and nephews, Fran (Arlo) Ellis, South Beaver Township, Barbara (Tom) Rohr, Oregon, Patti (Frank) DeFina, New Jersey, Joanne (Michael) Dimitt, Coraopolis, Michael (Cindy) Ratkovich, Brighton Township, Kathy Ratkovich, Missouri, Elaine Ratkovich, Florida; his wife's family, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his first wife, Catherine Ratkovich, in 1970; a son, Nicholas Ratkovich, Jr., in 1974; two brothers, Bernard "Bunny" and Mike "Jimbo", and two sisters, Anna and Mildred. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m. in the SCHWERHA-NOLL FUNERAL HOME, 600 Beaver Ave., Midland. The funeral service will be conducted by Father Milan Pajic followed by full military rites by the Midland American Legion. Private interment will take place at the Beaver Cemetery.
