James Andrew "Pappy" Herman, Sr., of WEST MAYFIELD

James Andrew "Pappy" Herman, Sr., 80, of West Mayfield, passed away April 2, 2010, at his home, with his family at his side. Born September 15, 1929 in Millvale, PA, he was a son of the late James and Othelia Herman. He had retired from Crucible Steel, Colt Industries, Midland, and was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served with the 34th regiment of the 24th Infantry Division during the Korean War. He was wounded in action and had received the Purple Heart as well as numerous other medals including the Bronze Star. Preceding him in death was his wife, Elsie (Stuck) Herman; two grandsons, Robert Tate, Jr., and Joshua Tate, and a sister, Jean Wilke. Pappy will be sadly missed by two sons, James Herman, Jr., Tampa, FL, and Scott and his wife, Christine Herman, West Mayfield; a daughter, Sherry Tate and Jeff Kennedy, Beaver Falls; five cherished grandsons, James Herman III, Christopher Herman, Jake Tate, Jeremy Tate, Jesse Herman; a brother, William (Marilyn) Herman, Brighton Township; two sisters, Darlene (Richard) McCafferty, Brighton Township, and Bonnie (Allen Fritz), Monaca, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the NOLL FUNERAL HOME INC., 333 Third St., Beaver. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com. Friends and family are asked to gather Wednesday at noon at Beaver Cemetery for a graveside service. The service will be conducted by Keith R. Black, M. Div, Veterans Liaison followed by full military rites by the Beaver County Special Unit. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the DAV, c/o Beaver County Veterans Affairs, 810 Third St., Beaver, PA 15009.
