Alexander “Alex” de la Cruz, 86, formerly of Midland, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021, from complications of a stroke and Covid-19.
Born December 17, 1934 in Midland, he was a Petty Officer 3rd class in the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Eaton during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Alex went on to a long career with Crucible Steel, Colt Industries, Midland. He was a member of Labor Union 1212, where he served as Labor Counsel, the American Red Cross, Girl Scouts, United Way, and the Knights of Columbus. A faithful member of St. Blaise Parish, Midland, Alex was active with the church’s fall festival.
In addition to his parents, Alejandro and Paula de la Cruz, Alex was preceded in death by four sisters, Esperanza “Hope” Sanchez, Mary F. de la Cruz, Catherine “Kitty” de la Cruz, and Guadalupe de la Cruz; along with a nephew and niece, Frank and Sara Sanchez.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, Reynaldo (Carlene) Sanchez, Steve (Gerry) Sanchez, Amelia Juarez, Celia Sanchez, Lidia (Mark Fraser) LeMasters, Mary (Vince Lack) de la Cruz, Rachel Sanchez, Sherri Markham, Renee (Chris) D’Alessandro, Debbie (Dave) Yasick, and Darla (Nick) Handlow.
Friends will be received Thursday, October 21, 2021, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Schwerha-Noll Funeral Home, 600 Beaver Ave., Midland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 22, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Blaise Parish, Midland. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.
