Alexander Milkovich, 88, formerly of Brighton Township, passed away October 17, 2015 at Forest Side Memory Care Facility, Washington, D.C.
Born January 23, 1927 in Midland, he was a son of the late Milan and Mary Krnich Milkovich.
Beside his parents, Alex was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gaye Treglia Milkovich in 2008.
Surviving him is a son, Scott (Leslie) Milkovich, a daughter, Lorna (Justin) Abernathy, and 3 cherished grandchildren, Rachel and Nick Milkovich and Tenley Addison Abernathy.
Alex, a founding member of Hope Lutheran Church, Brighton Township, worked diligently for his church in many capacities during his 65 years of service, including terms as church president, youth group advisor, council member, Men of Hope member, Bible study and Sunday school leader, and usher. For as many years, he worked with youth as a Boy Scout leader and advisor, earning the Lamb Award for his service to both scouting and the church. Even though he was never a Boy Scout as a young man, he guided many to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout. A source of great pride was that his son, son-in-law, and grandson are all Eagle Scouts.
A versatile athlete, Alex was a passionate runner, participating in many small races and 13 marathons. He enjoyed running with his friends, a close knit group called “The Gang”, whom he considered to be his extended family. He also took great pleasure playing tennis, volleyball, and cards.
For many years, Alex was a regular at Beaver Bobcat Football games and Midland Leopard Basketball games. He was a loyal Pittsburgh Steeler fan, faithfully wearing the black and gold until the end.
A memorial service for family and friends will be conducted Friday, October 23, 2015, at 10:00 am in the Noll Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Third St., Beaver. Interment will follow at Beaver Cemetery, Beaver. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.
