Barbara Louise Bailey Adams, 92 of Beaver, passed away peacefully in her home early Thursday morning, June 18, 2015.
She was born December 20, 1922 in Bethesda, Ohio to the late Willard Emerson and Marie Barnes Bailey. She grew up in Wheeling, West Virginia and graduated from West Virginia University in home economics. She met her husband, Duane at College and married him August 8, 1945 on his return from the war. He died in February 2005.
During college in the summers she taught tennis at Oglebay Park, Wheeling; during the war she worked for Sterling Drug Company making penicillin and then Ohio Power teaching women how to use an electric range.
She was a member of WVU Emeritus Club, and WVU University Alumni Association. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta and was past president of Wheeling Alumni. Member of Ft. McIntosh chapter of D.A.R., chapter B.N. of PEO Sisterhood, First Presbyterian Church, Beaver, First Presbyterian Church Charity Circle, Naomi Sisters and past president of Hodge Band. Member and past president of Woman’s Club of Beaver, Gertrude Barrett Service Group, Blackhawk Ladies Golf and Hank’s Thursday Golf Group. Also member of Seven Oak Country Club, Beaver Area Memorial Library, Merrick Art Gallery Associates, Beaver Are Heritage Foundation, Nimble Fingers Sewing Circle, Life Steps Bridge and former cub scout and brownie leader. She traveled the world and loved golf, bridge, needlepoint and reading.
She was preceded in death, besides her parents, by her husband of over 59 years, Duane Adams in 2005, an infant son in 1952, a son, Andrew Douglas Adams in 2013, and a sister, Lucille Bailey.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha “Marti” Delauter, Beaver, daughter-in-law, Jeanie Adams, Columbus, Ohio, a sister, Joan Clay, St. Louis, Missouri, six grandchildren, Jamie Botinovch, Beaver, Renee Delauter, Monaca, Denny Delauter, Center, Chris (Marith) Adams, Berea, West Virginia, Heather (Matt) Reigle, Germantown, Ohio, Jennifer (Carl Bowden) Adams, Danville, Ohio, and three great-grandchildren, Michael Botinovch, Chloe Adams and Greta Reigle.
Friends will be received Sunday from 4 to 8 pm in the Noll Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Third St., Beaver, where a service will be conducted Monday at 11:00 am by her pastor, Reverend Jeffrey A. Arnold, assisted by Reverend Keith Black. Entombment will follow at the Beaver Cemetery Mausoleum. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.
