Betty J. Murphy Montgomery

Betty J. Montgomery Murphy, 94, of Calcutta, OH, formerly of Midland, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at the Calcutta Health Care Center with her family at her side.

Born March 11, 1921 in Industry, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Nan Sisley Montgomery. She was a 1938 graduate of Lincoln High School, a former department store clerk and later worked at the Carnegie Library in Midland.

Beside her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William R. “Hoop” Murphy in 2012, five brothers, and a sister.

She is survived by three sons, George (Lee Ann) Brown, Buchanan, Jeff (Jean) Brown, Salt Lake City, UT, Robert (Julie) Murphy, Syracuse, NY, a daughter, Jeanne (Nick) Susich, Calcutta, eight grandchildren, Nick Susich, Jr., Betsy Somerville, Emily Brown, Sarah Brown, Jason Brown, Jennifer Brown, Melanie Murphy, and Joe Murphy, and seven great-grandchilddren, Bruce Fleming, Max Somerville, Ben Somerville, Shane Wingrove, Samantha Susich, Nikola Susich, Auden Brown, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Friday, from 2:00 pm until the time of service at 5:30 pm in the Schwerha-Noll Funeral Home, 600 Beaver Avenue, Midland. A private interment will take place at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s name to the Carnegie Library, 61 9th Street, Midland, PA 15059.
