Dolores "Chookie" Doughty Bekich

Dolores “Chookie” Doughty, 79 of Midland, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015 at St. Johns Specialty Care in Mars, PA surrounded by her loving family.

Born December 28, 1935 in Midland, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Sadie Roknich Bekich, and was a faithful member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Midland. Chookie was a member of the Kolo Srpske Sestara (Serbian Sisters), the St. George Youth Board, and the St. George Mothers Club, and was a member of the American Yugoslav Club, Midland where she had once worked in the kitchen for over 25 years. She had retired from New Horizon School, Brighton Twp from the cafeteria and loved to work crosswords and craft in her spare time.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Louis F. Doughty in 2012 and a sister, Mary “Mara” Shisler.

She is survived by a son, Mark (Alesia) Doughty, Ft. Mill, SC; and two daughters, Denise (James Grimm) Zelinsky, Diane Troia, all of Midland; Her greatest passion in life was being Baba to her seven cherished grandchildren, Nicholas and Aleksandar Doughty, Andrea Zelinsky and Katelyn Grimm, Michael and Victoria Doughty, and Elizabeth Troia, and two great grandchildren, Jayden and Jordynn. Also surviving are a sister, Dolly (Tom) Galioto and a brother Ted “Sonny” (Jean) Bekich, 2 special aunts, Mary Yope and Mickey Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 9 pm in the Schwerha-Noll Funeral Home, 600 Beaver Ave., Midland. A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 11:00 am at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Midland by Father Branislav Golic. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Ohioville. A Pomen will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 7:30 pm. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.
