Dorothy “Dottie” Bowser Downie, 85 of Brighton Township, passed away Friday, June 12, 2015.
Born May 16, 1930 in New Brighton, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Lillian Bowser, and had lived in Brighton Township since 1957. A graduate of New Brighton High School, she had worked as a floral designer for several florists for over 15 years. An active member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Brighton Township, she had served on the church council, was a member of Women of Hope, and sang in the choir. She was also a volunteer at Friendship Ridge for over 10 years.
Preceding her in death, besides her parents, were her husband, Charles William “Bill” Downie in 2001, and a brother, James Bowser.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah A. and Jason Jasinski, Economy, and Karen Downie, Edinboro, PA; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark William and Maribeth Downie, Strongsville, OH; a brother, Eugene Bowser, Vanport; a sister, Virginia (Theodore) Mohrbacher, New Brighton; five grandchildren, Amy (Robert, Jr.) Clouse, Jeanette (Shane) Dobbins, David (Athena) Jasinski, Kellie and Lauren Downie; four great-grandchildren, Darrion and Emilie Clouse and Alec and Brianna Dobbins; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm in the Noll Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Third St., Beaver. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 am at the Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Brighton Township by her pastor, Reverend Freda Snyder. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s memory, to the Hope Evangelical Church, 45 Maple Dr., Beaver, PA 15009.
