Frank Leslie Clark, 95, of Midland departed this life, Monday, October 31, 2016 with his family at his side.
Born April 27, 1921 in Midland, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. During his WWII tour of duty in France, Technician 4 th Grade Frank Clark was one of the few soldiers who had his portrait drawn by Elizabeth Black, a legendary Pittsburgh artist who worked for the Red Cross. That WQED documentary has appeared on PBS and other national broadcast stations throughout the country.
Frank was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Midland for almost 90 years. Among his many activities, he served as a Senior Men’s Head-Usher and a Trustee who worked on the First Baptist Church Building Fund Board which was developed to improve the appearance and upkeep of the church. He was a spiritual and faithful member who gave his tidings freely and attended church every Sunday until his health issues interfered.
In his spare time, Frank enjoyed sports and was a very enthusiastic golfer. He also took pleasure in attending various events including, football, basketball, tennis, and boxing. He was a steadfast friend and mentor to many young men in the area. All who knew him will sorely miss his kind and encouraging words and actions, and his good-natured laughter.
Frank leaves to cherish his memory Eva M. Clark, his beloved wife of 74 years; his loving daughters, Marcella Belt, Frankie Cox, Sharon A. Clark-Caracter, and Karen Clark, and his sons-in-law, Calvin A. Belt and Courtland B. Cox. He also leaves behind to mourn his passing six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous long-standing friends.
Frank was preceded in death by his son, Leslie Clark who passed away in 1991, and a son-in-law, William T. Caracter who passed away in 2006.
