Gasper P. Porto, 84, of Industry, passed away Monday, August 1, 2016 at his home.
Born May 1, 1932 in Midland, he was a son of the late Gaspere and Marianne Porto and had been a resident of Midland and Industry all his life. Gasper was a proud member of the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952, serving as a Master Sargent during the Korean War. During his term, he fought with the 3rd Infantry Division, 15th Infantry Regiment, B Company, and was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, Korea Combat Infantry Badge, Presidential Unit Citation with 3 Battle Stars, and the Good Conduct Medal. Gasper retired as an inspection supervisor from Crucible Steel, Colt Industries, Midland and was a faithful member of St. Blaise Parish, Midland. He was a founding member of the Deer Trails County Club and an avid golfer with 7 career Holes-in-One.
In addition to his parents, Gasper was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Movold in 2003; three brothers, Vincent Porto, and Joseph and Philip Roppa; and three sisters, Carmella Steff, Marion Carmean, and Rose Ganni.
He is survived by three sons, Joseph (Joyce) Porto, Ohioville, William Porto, Beaver, and Christopher (Noreen) Porto, Kennedy Township; one son-in-law, Ken Movold, Dallas, TX; 13 grandchildren, Vince and Chris Porto, Ashley Varian, Jessica and Jennifer Movold, Alexander, Christian, and Sara Porto, Katie, Maura, Daniel, Andrew, and Matthew Porto; and one great-grandson, Colton Varian.
Friends will be received Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Schwerha-Noll Funeral Home, 600 Beaver Avenue, Midland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Friday, August 5, 2016 at 9:30 am at St. Blaise Parish, Midland. Interment with full military rites given by the Beaver County Special Unit will take place immediately following at Beaver Cemetery, Beaver. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the VA Hospital, Oakland, and especially his cardiologist, Dr. Anaca Iliescu, for the exceptional care given to Gasper.
