George Cromo, 86, of Industry, passed away January 8, 2018.
He was the son of Theresa and Michael Cromo and was born in Alverda, PA. He graduated from Barnesboro High School in 1949 before joining the US Navy. Following his discharge from the Navy, he married his wife and moved to Beaver County, where he was employed by Crucible Steel in Midland for 30 years while raising 5 children. He also worked as a security guard at the Beaver Valley Power Station in Shippingport before retiring.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joanne, and his children Sandy, Diane, Lisa (George), Jan (Mike) and Mark, along with grandchildren Katie (Ted), Sara (Jason), Bryan, Maura, Sean, and Colin, and great-grandchildren Margot, Samuel, Owen, and Audrey. He is also survived by a sister, Betty, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings John, Ann, Helen, Mary, Steve, Joe, Julie, Margaret, Rose, Mike, Sue, and Kate.
George’s life could be defined by his faith and love of family. He was a faithful member of St. Blaise Catholic Church and extremely loyal to his wife and children. To the outside world, he was quiet and unassuming, but to his family, he was larger than life and the best husband and dad the world has ever known. He loved life and loved to tell stories about his experiences growing up in a family with 14 children, his time on the Barnesboro Red Dragons football team, his stint in the Navy, and his work at Crucible – most stories provided life lessons for his children, but sometimes they were just plain entertaining. He had a great sense of humor, was kind, generous, wise, honest, and always loving. He loved to provide advice (which was always right) and had a knack for doing math in his head faster than a calculator. He loved keeping up with the latest news, playing the PA lottery, working crossword puzzles, discussing politics, and watching football, especially the Steelers and Nittany Lions. He will be greatly missed by his wife and family and we are thankful for the time we had with him.
There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Michael Yaksick at St. Blaise Catholic Church in Midland, Saturday, January 13, 2018, 10:30am.
