Gerald "Jerry" Okey, 83, of Chippewa Township, formerly of Brighton Township, passed away peacefully in his sleep following a long battle with dementia on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
Born May 15, 1942 in Bellevue PA, he was the son of the late John S. and Mary Louise Okey. In 1963 he married the love of his life, Karen, and together they made Brighton Township their home for more than 50 years. After his retirement from a long and successful career with Duquesne Light Company, Jerry and Karen traveled the country in their RV and eventually became snowbirds in Naples, Florida where he loved playing a round of golf and having a beer (or 7) after. Having learned to play the guitar by ear at the age of 6, he was a talented musician, and the ultimate entertainer with his quick wit and hilarious stories - for his entire life he absolutely LOVED to make people sing, dance and laugh, even throughout his illness with dementia, because at the core, Jerry’s greatest passion was for the people he loved, and he loved just about everyone he ever met.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Karen, sister Linda Okey McGinley and his stepfather Eugene Moffett.
Jerry will be greatly missed by his two daughters, Susie (David) Duff and Jenny (Rod) Cantwell; three grandsons, Jake (Lexe Hayslette) Wikert, and Josh (Kalli) Wikert, and Logan (Pam Cooper) Cantwell; one great grandson, William "Liam" Wikert and one on the way; four brothers-in-law, Jim McGinley, Bob (Elaine) Jurasko, Brad Zielinski, and Jeff Zielinski, and many other family and friends that will miss him dearly.
As per his wishes, the family celebrated his life with a private ceremony.
His family wishes to thank those that provided kindness and loving care throughout his illness, including the staff of Lakeview Personal Care Home, the staff of Beaver Valley Healthcare & Rehab and the staff, nurses and aides from Three Oaks Hospice especially Jen, Rachel, Theresa and Lura. Memorial donations in Jerry’s name may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
