Gordon Allen Cornelius

Gordon Allen “Bud” Cornelius, 76, of New Brighton, passed away from complications related to his courageous battle with multiple myeloma, Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Heritage Valley, Beaver.

Born July 8, 1939 in Huntingdon, PA, he was a son of the late Millard and Garnetta Park Cornelius. During his years at Saltillo High School, Allen was a standout athlete in baseball, basketball, and football, enjoying a friendly competition with his older brother Gene. After high school, he played Huntingdon County League Adult Baseball, and later, coached several sports, mentoring young athletes through little league baseball, adult baseball, and girls’ softball leagues. He worked for the Commonwealth of PA where he retired as a respected and knowledgeable Health Care Facilities Inspector. Upon relocating to Beaver County in 2012, he enjoyed bringing happiness by delivering flowers for Snyder’s in Beaver. He was a faithful member of Beaver Baptist Church, Brighton Township, served as a member and leader of Community Bible Study, and volunteered at Lincoln Park Performing School of the Arts, Midland. He remained an avid hunter all his life.

Besides his parents, preceding Allen in death was his high school sweetheart and beloved wife, Darlene Wible Cornelius in 1971.

He is survived by a son Len (Terri) Cornelius, Saltillo, PA, two daughters, Lori (Harry) McElrath, Beaver and Terri Cornelius, Oak Park, IL, one brother, Gene (Nancy) Cornelius, Saltillo, eight grandchildren, Laura (Bruce) Slusher, Huntingdon, Paul (Steph Whitsel) Cornelius, Mt. Union, PA, Megan (Jared) Everetts, Saltillo, Logan, Drew, and Dylan McElrath, all of Beaver, Connor Cornelius, Oak Park, IL, and Carson Cornelius, Evansville, IN, and five great grandchildren, Benjamin and Leah Slusher, Hattie Everetts, Ethan Zook, and Parker Cornelius. Allen also had a special relationship with his niece, Kimberly Cornelius Kimmel, Colorado Springs, CO.

Friends will be received during a memorial service Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Noll Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Third St., Beaver. The family welcomes all to stay for the Blessing Service which will begin immediately following visitation. In addition, a memorial visitation will be conducted in Allen’s hometown at the Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Saltillo, PA, Saturday, January 23, 2016 from 1:00 pm until time of service at 2:00 pm. A private interment will take place at Saltillo Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.

Allen was witty, loving, and compassionate and will be greatly missed by many.
