Guido Lucente

June 27, 1931 — August 15, 2019

Guido Lucente of Center Township died on August 15th, 2019, at the age of 88 from complications associated with Congestive Heart Failure, but his memory will live on with those who knew him.

He was born in Pratola Peligna, Italy on June 27th, 1931. He was the youngest of five children. Born on a family farm, he developed a love of gardening and the outdoors. He loved sharing the bounties of his garden with neighbors, friends and his doctors during appointments by dropping off bags of vegetables he harvested.

Guido fled Italy during the Nazi invasion and sailed to Caracas, Venezuela to live with his brother who worked as a veterinarian. Guido held a variety of jobs while in Venezuela. He first worked as a banderillero at bullfights which at the time was a very popular sport. Next, he worked as a butler for a family who owned a newspaper in Caracas. In exchange for his work, he had room and board and was taught Spanish. Then he learned to operate heavy equipment and was part of a construction group which built the Caracas-La Guaira Highway. The project was considered an engineering masterpiece for its time. After years of dangerous construction work, he dreamed of a better life and immigrated to the United States of America.

Guido taught himself to read and write English and became a U.S. Citizen in 1968. During this time, he met his wife, Maria (Presutti) Lucente and was married. On August 12th of this year, they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. They had two children, Lorena and Daniel. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Lorena Lucente.

Guido was a pipe fitter by trade, working at LTV Steel Aliquippa Works, formerly Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation, until his retirement. After his retirement from ‘the mill’, he found a variety of jobs to continue to provide for his family. Guido bestowed upon his children the importance of honesty, gentility and a strong work ethic. He was highly organized and always had a schedule of things he wanted to accomplish for the day.

In his later years, he would spend most summer days outside from sunrise to sunset tending to his garden and yard until his health began to decline. He enjoyed making what he called Italian peasant food which he learned from his mother while on his family farm. Guido loved his family dearly. He found a renewed joy in being a grandfather and spending time with his daughter-in-law, Denise Gregoire-Lucente and grandchildren, Coral Lorena Lucente and Caleb Daniel Lucente.

Friends will be received on Monday August 19, 2019 from 4pm – 6pm in the Noll Funeral Home Inc. 333 Third Street, Beaver Pa. 15009 Where a Blessing Service will be held on Tuesday August 20, 2019 at 11:00 am. Online condolences may be shared at www.nollfuneral.com

Private interment to take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a tremendous heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of Good Samaritan Hospice at Heritage Valley Beaver for their care and compassion with Guido during his last days. They provided unparalleled support to Guido and his family.

If you were touched in some small way by this, please consider making a donation to the American Heart Association and/or to Good Samaritan Hospice. Without support from organizations such as these, people are uninformed about heart disease and underserved when care is needed during their time of need.
