Hierodeacon Joseph Wirag

Hierodeacon Joseph Wirag, 69, of Ambridge, passed away unexpectedly on May 21, 2026.

Born on August 26, 1956, Joe was a member of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Church. He joined the community of Brothers of the Holy Spirit when he joined the Ukrainian Catholic Rite and was designated a Heirodeacon in 2014.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Geri Szabo.

Joe will be sadly missed by his best friend of 40 years, Father Frank Mitolo; nephews, Jeff (Kim) Szabo, and Gary Szabo, all of Pittsburgh; and many friends.

Friends will be received on May 26, 2026 from 3pm -6pm in the Schwerha-Noll Funeral Home, 629 Midland Avenue, Midland PA 15059. Joe will lay in state on May 27, 2026 from 11am until the time of service at 1pm at the St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 404 6th Street, Ambridge PA 15003.

Interment to follow in Beaver Cemetery.
