Irene H. Genevie

Irene H. Genevie, 79, of Beaver, formerly of Vanport Twp., passed away Sunday, October 14, 2018 at UPMC Mercy, Pittsburgh.

Born September 16, 1939 in Rochester, she was a daughter of the late Kurt and Irene Schwarzenau Grunert. Irene was a 1957 graduate of Beaver Area High School, going on to work as a switchboard operator and candy clerk at the former Gimbels Department Store. A Steeler fan with a heart of gold, she will be greatly missed by the many friends and neighbors she helped, always with a smile that told of her optimistic, upbeat personality. She never complained about her circumstances even when her later years found her in a wheelchair. Irene was a faithful member of First Christian Church, Beaver.

Irene will be sadly missed by her daughters, Jane (Dan) Leis, Brighton Twp., and Susan (John) Dertouzos, Exton, PA; one brother, Kurt (Edie) Grunert, Beaver; and five cherished grandchildren, Andrew and Daniel Leis, Catherine and Cristina Dertouzos, and Stephanie (Bob) Rout.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Walter Grunert.

Friends will be received Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Noll Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Third St., Beaver. Interment at Beaver Cemetery will be private. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.
