John H. “Smitty” Smith, 68, of Brighton Township, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 1, 2015 at his home with his family by his side.
Born January 29, 1947 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, he was the son of the late Howard and Rebecca Smith and had been a resident of Brighton Township most of his life, graduating in 1964 from Beaver Area High School. John retired in 2010 from Phoenix Glass where he had worked 39 years as a set-up man and served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, and classic cars. John had owned a 1949 Chevy and 1980 Corvette which he would proudly show as a member of the Cruzin Few Car Club.
Surviving John is his wife of 39 years, Margaret “Marge” Lehocky Smith, 2 sons, David (Andrea) Smith, San Antonio, Texas, Michael Smith, Albion, PA, 1 daughter, Suzanne Taylor, Delaware, 1 daughter-in-law, Christine Cook New, Crescent Township, and 2 siblings, Kent (Debbie) Smith, Chippewa Township and Marylynn (James) Branthoover, Brighton Township, along with 5 grandchildren.
Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Cook in 2003.
Friends will be received Thursday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Noll Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Third St., Beaver where a funeral service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 8:00pm. A private interment at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies will take place at a later date. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.
