John "Polo" Markulin

John “Polo” Markulin, 86, Brighton Township (formerly of Monaca) died on Friday, April 10, 2015 at his home with his wife and son at his side.

Born March 21, 1929 in Monaca, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Veselich) Markulin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Surviving is his loving wife of 62 years, Josephine Rihely Markulin and his devoted son, John Michael, both of Brighton Township. He is also survived by a granddaughter Lauren (Sean) Markulin West , great grandson Nolan Michael West, great granddaughter Ella Reese West, all of Pittsbugh; sister-in-law Dorothy Markulin of Ohio; sisters-in-law Anna Anderson, Ohio; Kate Thompson, Arizona; Carolyn (Angelo) Cupani, Brighton Townhip, Rose (Art) Thompson, New Brighton; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

John served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He retired from the former Teledyne Vasco Company, Monaca (now known as ATI). He was a Beaver County “Times” carrier for 16 years and most recently was employed by U.S. Airways. He was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Parish, Beaver, a lifetime member of the Monaca Turners and the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 85 having served as President until his death. In addition, he was a member of the Greek Catholic Union of the USA; Seven Oaks Country Club; New Brighton Kolo Ensemble; Ambridge Adult Tamburitzens; and the Tamarac Lake Cloggers.

John was an avid sports fan who especially loved baseball and golf. Friends will be received Monday from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Noll Funeral Home. Inc., 333 Third St. Beaver . Due to parish renovations, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St John the Baptist Parish, 1409 Pennsylvania Ave, Monaca on Tuesday at 10:00 am. Interment at the Beaver Cemetery will be private. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the church and sent to 200 Third Street, Beaver, PA. 15009, or to Mother Teresa Hospice, 3950 Brodhead Road, Monaca, Pa. 15061.
