It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Anthony Petroff, Sr., born March 1, 1934, son of Eli Petroff and Susan (Kashi) D’amico, and died December 3rd, 2022.
He is joined once again with his loving wife of 63 years, Domenica (Mamie Flara) Petroff, who passed away in May. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved sister Helen Petroff (Canney), brother Robert Petroff, sister Irene (Petroff) Lemasters and brother Nicholas Selepec.
Joe will be remembered lovingly by his two children, Joseph Petroff Jr., (Stella Pometto) and Tammy (Charles) Friday; grandchildren Rio (Mark) Stenner, Blake (Megan) Friday and Chad Friday; great grandchildren, Wren, Edwin, and Calla Stenner. He will be remembered as Uncle Joe to many nieces and nephews whom he adored. And teased. A lot.
While Joe’s early life was filled with unspeakable challenges, he rose up and together with Mamie created a beautiful life, became a force for good, and examples of kindness and good heartedness to all that they encountered.
Joe served in the Army during the Korean War and was also a reservist. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Midland Council and served as Grand Knight. Joe was an active member at Saint Blaise Church in Midland and could be counted on by most anyone to lend a helping hand. Annual family vacations were a priority, traveling all over the United States, Mexico, Italy and the Caribbean Islands, to name a few. As a family focused man, his door was always open to relatives and friends to share a meal, a bed, or anything he had. His home was holiday central where a great celebration could be counted on. He was happiest during family gatherings, pig roasts or reunions where he was instrumental ensuring the event was a success. He often joked that “Once you marry an Italian, you become one.” Joe enjoyed cooking and it always involved experimentation, never sure what you would be eating but it was usually delicious. His chili was famous and he was often invited on hunting trips with friends even though he did not hunt, but to make the chili instead.
As an avid Steeler Fan, Joe and his buddies started going to Steeler games in the early 1970’s and he attended 4 of the 6 Steeler Super Bowl wins. He was also a fanatical fan of any sport his grandchildren played, rarely missing a game rain or shine.
Friends will be received Thursday, December 8, 2022, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Schwerha-Noll Funeral Home, 600 Beaver Ave., Midland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 9, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Blaise Parish, Midland. A private internment will take place at Beaver Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at www.nollfuneral.com.
The family would like to express a special heartfelt thank you to the Sherwood Oaks Community and especially the staff on Oak Grove 2 where Joe received exceptional care and was surrounded with love over the past years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Sherwood Oaks Subsidy Fund, 100 Norman Drive, Cranberry Twp., PA 16066. Or in Joe’s memory, spend an enjoyable Sunday surrounded by family watching the Steelers.
