Josephine Marie Slater, 96, of Ohioville, passed away January 21, 2020. Born December 5, 1923 in Midland, Pennsylvania, Josephine was the daughter of MaryGrace Boyle and Patsy Papa. She lived and worked in the area her entire life. She worked as a store clerk, beautician and salon owner, a crane operator at Crucible Steel during the war, and finally the owner of “Josephine’s” in Midland where she worked until she was 90. Josephine was an avid and accomplished golfer. She enjoyed visiting the Mountaineer Casino and playing the machines, loved being with friends and family, but most of all she loved working…she said it kept her young. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Louis (Peggy) Hapach, Marlene (David) Troup, and William (Linda) Hapach; one sister, Rosemarie Stevenson; seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her husband Adam W. Slater; a grandson, Louis R. Hapach; and seven siblings: Louis, Joseph, Theresa, Orlan, James, Gracie and Jules. Friends will be received Sunday, January 26, 2020, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Schwerha-Noll Funeral Home, 600 Beaver Ave., Midland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, January 27, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Blaise Parish, Midland. A private interment will follow at Beaver Cemetery.
