Lawrence L. Shute

December 1, 1943 — August 27, 2022

Larry Air Flight 1943, originating in Los Angeles, CA and arriving in Pittsburgh, PA, has started its final descent after pushing back from the gate a little bit ahead of schedule.

Lawrence Lenn Shute, 78, of Beaver, PA, is on that plane and now waving goodbye to himself because there he goes. Wise from his storied 40-year career across every active and defunct airline company you can think of, he elected to not check a bag but is surely rewatching Schitt’s Creek on the way. Our California beach boy, Larry was the son of the late William Chester Sr. and Laura Belle Brown Shute. He was the youngest of 9 children who along with his parents preceded him in death, including Julia Graham, William Shute Jr., Wayne Shute, Donald Shute; Norman Shute, Dennis Shute, Harold Shute and Kenneth Shute.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Janet Staun Shute, twin daughters Laura and Rebecca Shute. He is preceded in death by his faithful dog, Gromit, who he liked more than most people and hopes to share a cheese quesadilla with on the other side. He was best known in Beaver for starting the coffee shop trend with Napoleon’s II in 1996.

We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Good Samaritan Hospice for their diligent and kind care over the last few weeks. In lieu of flowers, just do something kind for someone in need.

Larry was a fiercely loving, stubborn, and funny man who would like to leave you with a stanza of his favorite poem, Invictus: It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul. (The above does not apply in cases of inclement weather or mechanical delays.)
