Maria (Mary) Scarsella

October 18, 1925 — July 24, 2018

Maria Domenica (Mary) Bottiglieri Scarsella

Our Family is a little smaller today now that our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great, Great Meemaw has been called home to be with the Lord. Our Mother’s recent health struggles were well known by all Who loved her. Although terribly missed We find comfort in the fact that she is no longer in pain and is at Peace.

Mary was born in Bagnoli Irpino Italy on October 18,1925, the daughter of Andrea Aniello & Lucia (Chiaradonna) Bottiglieri. Mary was just 19 months old when her Mother, Sister and Brother arrived at Ellis Island on May 20,1927. A great sense of pride in her heritage showed in Mary throughout her life. Lovingly known as “Grandma Ravioli” she was known for her wonderful recipes and food she shared with her Family. Mary learned to sew as a young Girl and continued for many years making many of her own curtains and clothes. She loved working with yarn and crocheted everything from decorations to shawls. The last 16 months were a tough journey for Mary but at her age she found many new things to get excited about. Her fist mani-pedi, finding long lost Family information due to her Children’s interest in Ancestry, her new-found taste for seafood and honing her sharp sense of humor on her unsuspecting Family when we least expected it. The biggest surprise for Mary was to find that she had a fondness of felines. She would sit for hours and stroke her new Feline Friends that adopted her when she moved to Ohio. Zoe quietly watched over Grandma her last night

Mary grew up in predominantly Italian Neighborhoods of Aliquippa PA. and Niles, Ohio as a Child. At 16 she wed Donald Scarsella on April 23,1942. They resided 75 years in Midland and raised their Family there.

Mary is survived by two sons, Donald (Margaret) Scarsella Jr. of Baden, Pa, David (Janice) Scarsella of East Liverpool, OH; two daughters, Carol Flowers of Hickory, N.C, Marilyn Scarsella, of Las Vegas, NV; Daughter in law, Carolyn Scarsella, Midland, Son in law, Timothy Stewart of Monaca and Sister in law, Elsie Scarsella, Center Township.

Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory 12 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great, Great Grandchildren as well as many Nieces of Nephews from both sides of our Family.

Mary was preceded in death by her Husband, Donald in 2017 as well as Siblings and Spouses, Andrea (Josephine) Bottiglieri, Amuarella “Anna” (Vincent) Feorene, Louise (Donald) Maffei, Rosa Bottiglieri from Niles, Ohio and Grandson John A. Scarsella.
