Mary Ellen Genova

Mary Ellen Genova, 90 formerly of Freedom, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015.

Born October 6, 1924 in Monessen, PA, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Evelyn Mandarino. Mary Ellen had retired from Freedom after 15 years as the borough secretary. She was a licensed hairdresser and had also formerly worked as a teacher’s aide at Freedom High School. A faithful lifelong member of St. Felix Parish, Freedom, she had belonged to the Christian Mothers, and was a graduate of Freedom High School and the Pittsburgh Beauty Academy.

Preceding her in death besides her parents was her husband of 34 years, John W. Genova in 1982, her daughter, Joanne Sujansky in 2009, a brother, Samuel Mandarino, and a sister, Lois Zigerelli.

She will be sadly missed by her loving family including her son, John M. (Jean) Genova, Bethlehem, PA, 3 daughters, Sandy (Steven) Rossi, Monroeville, Ellen (David) Lamar, Bethel Park, Paula (Carmen) Congelio, Uniontown, a son-in-law, Charles (Jill) Sujansky, Canonsburg, 2 sisters, Patty (Pete) Homitz, Monaca, Peggy (Larry) Garuccio, Aliquippa, a sister-in-law, Elsie Mandarino, Monaca, 10 cherished grandchildren, Cara, Justin, Anthony, Matthew, Andrew, Maria, Liza, Alexandra, Carmen, Jenna, and 2 great granddaughters, Luciana and Sofia. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Noll Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Third St., Beaver. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:00 am at St. Felix Church. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.
