Mary Elizabeth Howells, 77 of Brighton Twp went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday evening, September 24, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born August 9, 1938 in Monaca, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Johnson and had been a resident of Brighton Twp nearly 30 years. Mary was an ordained pastor, and pastored alongside her husband at the Church of the Living Christ, Bridgewater. She authored several books and her love of writing and teaching allowed her to share her faith. She had taught at the Beaver Valley Christian Academy, and the Word Bible Institute as well as Sunday School at the church. She wrote curriculum for primary Sunday School students through One Accord and had traveled throughout the world as a missionary. With her husband, she taught and educated children in places like Kenya, Guatemala, and Honduras as a bible teacher sharing the Old Testament with hundreds of people. Mary received her bachelor degree from Logos University in Jacksonville, FL, and later, her Masters and Doctorate of Divinity from Southern Bible and Seminary in Thomson, Ga. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Henry M. Howells, two sons, David (Toni) Howells, Beaver Falls, Phillip (Debbie) Howells, Brighton Twp., a daughter, Terri (Craig) Taormina, Monaca, a sister, Dorothy Johnson, Monaca, 9 grandchildren, Jedidiah (Celeste) Howells, Maranda, Reese, and Vincent Howells, Phillip, Jr., and Kathleen Howells, Dominic (Anastasia) Taormina, Sarah (Steve Bierer) Taormina, and Anthony (LaDonna) Taormina, and 4 great grandchildren, Judah Howells, Dominic and Zachary Taormina and Sophia Taormina. Friends will be received Sunday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Monday from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am in the Church of the Living Christ, 699 Riverside Drive, West Bridgewater. The service will be conducted by her son, Pastor David Howells. Private interment will take place at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Catholic Hospice, especially Robin Curtis and to Mary’s special caretaker, Kay McComb for the loving care given to Mary.
