Mary R. Nutz, 94, of Girard, PA, formerly of Midland, passed away Friday, December 7, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
Born September 8, 1924 in Beaver Falls, she was born of the late Frank and Marciana Skrajny, loved and raised by the late Stanley and Pauline Rachinski, and had been a resident of Midland most of her life. Mary was a devoted wife, loving mother, and caring and compassionate grandmother and great-grandmother. Full of spunk, she lent her energy to the many jobs and volunteer positions she held during her long life, including various activities at St. Blaise Parish, Midland, and the ACP office in Beaver. Mary possessed an insatiable curiosity of the world and people around her, leading her to explore through study and experiment many interests such as the stock market, cooking, sewing, and travel. She loved travel so much, her nickname was “Gypsy”. When Mary wasn’t on her front porch bird or people watching, she could be found camping, hiking in Hawaii, enjoying bus trips or cruises with other seniors, taking her chances in Vegas, and most recently, parked by a waterfall on the side of the road or sitting by Lake Erie, eating lunch with her daughter and caregiver, Gina. Most importantly to those who knew and loved Mary was her generosity, her ability to listen and comfort those in need, her gentleness, grace, kindness and acceptance, her strong faith in her church, and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary to whom she prayed daily.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Albert Nutz, who has been awaiting their reunion since 2008; and three sisters, Stella Koczur, Frances Sturm, and Jenny Capozza.
She will be greatly missed by her sons, Patrick D. (Joyce) Nutz, and Albert J. (Sharon) Nutz; daughters, Mary R. (Mark) Allgeier, and Marcia A. (Robert) Gold; a brother, Frank (Marcia) Skrajny; grandchildren, Erin (Mike) Sexton, Hannah Miller, Gretchen and Shelby Nutz, Jennifer and Lindsay Gold, Aaron (Jody) O’Brien, Derek O’ Brien, and Morgan (Serena) O’Brien; and great-grandchildren, Archer and Patrick Sexton, Cameron, Logan, Ainsleigh, Cadence, Marisa, Leighana, and Graysen O’Brien.
Friends will be received Friday, December 14, 2018 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Schwerha-Noll Funeral Home, 600 Beaver Ave., Midland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Blaise Parish, Midland. Interment will follow at Beaver Cemetery, Beaver. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s name may be made to St. Blaise Parish, 772 Ohio Avenue, Midland, PA 15059, or a favorite charity.
There are many people we would like to thank, including Great Lakes Hospice and the very special caregivers who loved on Mom, Katie, Conny, and Karen. Deepest appreciation for the Erie recovering community, and family and friends across the country who lifted Mom up in prayer.
