Peter J. Benedict, 101, of Midland, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2016, at Elmcroft of Chippewa, Pa. Born on December 17, 1914, in Midland, he was the son of the late Peter and Rose Benedict and had been a resident of Midland all his life.
Peter was a graduate of Midland High School and worked at Crucible Steel Co. until his retirement in 1976. He was an avid golfer and bowler and regularly attended Silver Sneakers. He was a member of local Union 1212 serving as treasurer. He was a football referee for many years serving Beaver County and Ohio Valley. His love of God and family was life long , giving to everyone. He was a faithful member of St. Blaise Parish in Midland where he was a member of the choir, Parish Council, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and Holy Name Society. He received the Holy Name Society Man of the Year Award in 1996, and the Father Marcus O’Brien award for Catholic Charities in 2003. He was also a faithful member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree for over 80 years and the Beaver County Sierra Club. He volunteered helping Habitat for Humanity.
He leaves behind two sons and daughters-in- law, Peter and Marcia of Toledo, Ohio, John and Janet of Midland; three daughters and sons-in- law, Betty Ann and Chuck Majeski of Franksville, Wisconsin, Mary and Ray McShane of Midland, and Rose “Ginger” and David Stanek of Medina, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
He was proceeded in death by his beloved Wife, Virginia Murphy Benedict whom he married on August 16th, 1939, who passed away on July 31st, 2008, two brothers, Dr. Frank and Sam Benedict, and five sisters, Josephine Flaherty, Florence Galovic, Antoinette “Babe” Mclean, Rose Tepovich and Lena Komara.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, September, 5, 2016 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. in the SCHWERHA-NOLL FUNERAL HOME, 600 Beaver Avenue, Midland, Pa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 1:00 pm at St Blaise Parish by his pastor, Father Michael Yaksick. Interment will follow at Beaver Cemetery. We want to thank his caregivers, Jean Milkovich and Kathy Stevenson and the staff of Elmcroft and Gateway Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
