Phillip R. Staving, 75, Center Twp., passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022 after a courageous battle with bladder cancer. Phil died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. Born September 20, 1946 in New Brighton, Pa., to the late Phillip and Doris Staving, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathie Staving. Phil was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Francis Cabrini Parish in Center Twp., Pa. He served in the U.S. Navy immediately after high school in Mississippi. Upon being honorably discharged, Phil made a career by working for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years. He was an avid golfer and prided himself in the fact that he had made several holes in one! Other passions of his were reading, bowling, traveling the world, and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed his life and that was reflected in the number of friends he had. He had several close friends with whom he would meet daily for breakfast. Phil was a gentleman. He opened car doors and was patient when his wife would come home from a shopping spree with multiple bags, never complaining. He had a great sense of humor and was very quick witted. His grandson, Tyler, was a great joy in his life; not a day went by when Tyler didn’t speak with his Pap. A favorite pastime of Phil’s was watching Jeopardy after dinner with his mother- in- law, Rose and spending time with his beloved dog, Mimi. Phil is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 13 happy years, Christine Staving; children Sandy (Roger) Decker and Rick (Wendie) Staving and inherited two children, Michelle Jacobs and Audrey Shannon who adored him; grandson Tyler, bonus grandchildren Victoria (Marc), Shenandoah, Scott (Faith), and Dakota; bonus great grandchildren Marc-Anthony, Novalee, and Atlas; siblings Jane Emert and Leslie (Bob) Lotito; mother- in-law Rose Martin; and several nieces and nephews. There will not be a viewing but a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Cabrini, Center Twp. with full military honors on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 10am. Masks are required.
