Ratnakar S. Shetty, M.D.

Ratnakar S. Shetty, M.D., 81, of Mt. Holly, NC, formerly of Beaver, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 25, 2021.

Born November 7, 1940 in Brahmavara, Karnataka India, he was a son of the late Sarvotham and Gulabi Shetty. Ratnakar began his long career in medicine at St. Xaviers College, Bombay, India in 1957, arriving in the United States in 1964 for an internship at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY. Specializing in Internal and Pulmonary Medicine, he first practiced in Reading, PA until 1977, where he was Chief of Pulmonary Medicine at Community General Hospital, arriving in the Beaver Valley area in 1978. He was a member of Tri-State Medical Group, HVHS, Beaver Valley, from 1998 until present. Ratnakar was affiliated with Ellwood City Hospital and the former Medical Center, Beaver.

Ratnakar held many professional certifications and memberships, including serving as a member of the Royal College of Physicians, and a clinical tutor at Galway Medical Centre, Ireland; the American Medical Association; and Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

In the medical community, Ratnakar had served as Director of the Beaver County Heart Association; Director of the Beaver County Medical Society; President of the Medical Staff, Medical Center Beaver; and Chairman of the Critical Care Committee, Heritage Valley Health System, along with holding several other leadership positions. He was also a member of the New Brighton Lions Club.

Ratnakar will be greatly missed by his wife of nearly 46 years, Yolan Shetty; sons, Kiran (Courtney) Shetty, Randolph, NJ, and Nathan (Bina) Shetty, Charlotte, NC; granddaughter, Sahaeli Shetty; 3 nieces, Ribitha, Risha, and Nina; and a nephew, Sarvotham; along with his wife’s family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Karunakar Shetty, and sister, Lila Shetty.

Friends will be received Friday, December 3, 2021, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Noll Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Third St., Beaver. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of the Valley Parish, Saints Peter and Paul Church, Beaver. A Pooja will follow at a later time.
