Richard M. Vanus Sr.

Richard M. Vanus, Sr., 83, of Brighton Twp, formerly of New Castle, PA, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 4, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Born July 27, 1939 in New Castle, PA, he was the son of Michael and Josephine Vanus. Richard was a veteran of the United States Merchant Marines. He began his career at Hills Department Store as a clerk and retired as District Manager. He will be remembered for his relentless effort and tenacity that he poured into anything he set out to accomplish.

Richard enjoyed spending his spare time in Surfside Beach, South Carolina relaxing and listening to the ocean with a styrofoam cup in his hand.

Richard will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Louise Claire Vanus; daughter, Luanne Wallace, and her husband, Kenneth Wallace; Grandchildren, Jordan Pucel (Sarah Gibson), Lindey (Timothy) Johnson, Kresten Wallace (Victoria Springer), and Karter Wallace; along with Great-Grandchildren, Theodore and Logan Johnson and his dog Zoey who faithfully accompanied him every time he was on the road.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son Richard M. Vanus Jr.; brothers, Anthony (Estella Perez) Vanus and Gerald (Sue) Vanus; sisters, Jean Vanus (Valentino) Carkitto and Delores Vanus (Peter) Massey.

The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Valley ICU and Good Samaritan Hospice for taking such good care of Richard in his final days.

Friends will be received Friday, July 7, 2023 from 2-4 PM and 6-8PM in the Noll Funeral Home, INC., 333 Third ST., Beaver. A private Funeral Service will be conducted followed by burial at Beaver Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.
