Robert J. Johnston, 67 of Brighton Township, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospice Heritage Valley Beaver surrounded by his family.
Born March 20, 1948 in Sharon, he was a son of the late Robert L. and Ruth Bilkey Johnston, and had been a resident of Brighton Township since 1988. He retired in 2010 as a Vice President of Engineering Operations from C3 Controls, Vanport where he had worked since 1988, having previously worked as an engineering manager for Westinghouse for 12 years. He was a member of Vanport Presbyterian Church. A well-known and avid golfer, he was a member of the PGA, had belonged and served as president of Beaver Valley Golf Association, and was a three time champion of the Beaver County Times Senior Championship.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kay Lavery Johnston, three daughters, Amy Hartle, Brighton Township, Katie (Mike) Bayer, Hermitage, Carrie (Jeff) Ondrusek, Patterson Heights, mother-in-law, Gladys W. Lavery, Hermitage, two sisters, Carol (Gene) Harley, Mercer, Shirley (James) Daugherty, Ft. Wayne, IN, six grandchildren, who will miss their “Pop”, Hayley and Hannah Hartle, Emily, Trey and Jaxon Bayer, Reese Ondrusek, brother-in-law, John (Terri) Lavery, CA, numerous nieces and nephews (all favorites) and many, many dear friends and loved ones.
Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 pm and Tuesday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm in the Noll Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Third St., Beaver. A funeral service will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:00 am at Vanport Presbyterian Church by Reverend David D. Byers. Private interment will follow at the Beaver Cemetery.
