Ruth Dawson Schnebly

Ruth S. Dawson, 100 of Hookstown and Midland, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Beaver Meadows.

Born March 5, 1915 in Heilwood, Indiana County, PA, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Daniel and Allie Schnebly. Ruth attended Smith College, Northampton, MA and Geneva College, where she earned a BS/BEd in 1945. She retired as an elementary school teacher after having taught for more 30 years, at Beaver County Public Schools (1937-1945) and East Liverpool City Schools (1957-1977). A member of First Presbyterian Church, Beaver, she was a former Worthy Matron with Eastern Star, and was a Gold Star Mother.

Preceding her in death, besides her parents, were her husband, Millard C. Dawson in 1978, a son, Daniel M. Dawson, who was killed in action during the Vietnam War in 1969, and three brothers, Vincent Schnebly, the Rev. Daniel Schnebly, Jr. and Lt. Col. (ret., USAF) Thomas Schnebly.

She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth (James) Todd, Brighton Township, Rebecca Kohne, Zelienople, five granddaughters, and 10 great-grandchildren.

As per her wishes, cremation services were provided. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Noll Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Third St., Beaver is handling the arrangements.
