Stanley Yovich

Stanley “Stanko” Yovich, 86, of Ohioville, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Friendship Ridge, Brighton Township.

Born January 21, 1930 in Midland, he was a son of the late Stanley and Mildred Livada Yovich and had lived in the area all his life.

A 1948 Midland High School graduate, Stanko proudly served in the U.S. Army for four years. He was an Army Ranger with the 101st Airborne, 4th Division, B Company, during the turning point of the Korean War (1950 – 1951), certified as a parachutist and gliderman with this elite group. The book, “Korean Nights” by J. C. Watts, Jr., fully describes the training and combat experiences of his unit, plus post combat wrap-up, along with other supporting units.

Stanko received the Korean Service Medal with one bronze service star, the United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachute Badge, Glider Badge, and Occupation Medal Japan. He was a past member and supporter of several military and charitable organizations.

After retiring from Midland’s Crucible Steel, Colt Industries, Shell Plant, he continued his woodworking interest, sharing his remarkable talent through gifts to family and friends. Over the years, he and his siblings took in many stray cats and dogs and had a devoted attachment to them all.

In addition to his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by three brothers, Theodore, Nick, and Milan Yovich, and three sisters, Mary Butler, Neddie Yovich, and Zorna Rasillo.

He is survived by one brother Rudy (Betty) Yovich, Midland, and their three children, Debra Yovich, Diana Hunter, and two children Samantha and Chelsea Granito, Rudy (Timera) Yovich, Jr., and their two children, Lauren Yovich and Nicholas Stanley Yovich, Esq., plus numerous other nieces and nephews. He also had an amazing group of neighbors and friends who were generous with their assistance.

Per Stanley’s wishes, there will be no public visitation and interment will be private. All arrangements are being handled by the Schwerha-Noll Funeral Home, 600 Beaver Avenue, Midland. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.
