Steve Chumura, Jr., 90 of Midland passed away peacefully Saturday, February 3, 2018 with his family at his side. Born December 6, 1927 in Midland, he was a son of the late Steve and Dorothy Milankovich Chumura and had been a resident of Midland all of his life. A 1946 graduate of Lincoln High School, Midland, Steve was a proud veteran of the US Navy having served from 1946 to 1949 on the destroyer, USS Samuel B. Roberts, DD823 and had retired from Westinghouse Electric Corp, Vanport as a machine operator after 35 years. He had attended the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Midland and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a lifetime member of the Midland Sportsman Club, was a member of the Beaver Valley Sportsman Club, and the Amateur Trap Association, (ATA). He loved sports and in 2013, he was inducted into the Midland Sports Hall of Fame. Steve never missed a Lincoln Park Leopards basketball game and for years he ran the game clock. Preceding him in death besides his parents were two sisters, Gloria Borato in 2014, and Helen Zetz in 2015, and a brother, Milan who died in infancy. Steve knew no strangers, everyone was a friend to him, he was a devoted son, brother, and loving uncle. He will be sadly missed and forever be in the hearts of his nieces, Dorothy “Tootsie” (Harry) Burzenski, Midland, Jeanne (Dave) Curtin, Tampa, FL, nephews, Rudy “Putch” (Donna Jean) Zetz, Hopewell, Steve (JoAnn) Borato, Conway, a great nephew, Rudy (Julie) Zetz, III, Hopewell, his Godson, Dean Borato, Darlington, and his extended family, David and Paula Burzenski and their children. The family would like to extended their gratitude to Carl and Pat St George for the many years of friendship. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the Schwerha-Noll Funeral Home, 600 Beaver Ave., Midland, where a funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 am by Father Dejan Barac. Interment will follow at the Beaver Cemetery. A Pomen Service will be held Tuesday at 6:45 pm in the funeral home. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Beaver County Humane Society or to the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Midland.
