Thomas H. Challis Jr.

Thomas H. Challis Jr., 85, of Bridgewater, passed away on July 6, 2018 at Beaver Valley Health and Rehab.

Born on December 7th, 1932 in Sewickley to the late Thomas H. and Stella Rogers Challis Sr., Tom was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ambridge. He attended Geneva College, and also received an Honorary Doctorate in Music from Columbia University for his outstanding career in music. He also was the founder and director of The Abbey Brass in Spring 1968, a church group Challis formed and retired from in 2003. He was inducted into The Beaver County Music Hall of Fame in 2004. He worked as an Industrial Draftsman at St. Joe Minerals Corporation. Tom was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Baden Legion VFW.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a grandson, John Challis Jr; and two sisters Norma Schlentner and Diane North. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of almost 24 years Andrea Marie Probsdorfer Challis; three sons, Tom Challis III of W. Hollywood CA, Scott (Gina) Challis of Freedom, and Ed Challis of Brighton Twp.; a step-son, George (Kathy) Douds of Pittsburgh; one daughter, Leanne Challis of Brighton Twp; Two grandchildren Alexis Challis of Freedom and Kaitlin Challis of San Diego; and his four-legged companion, Anna.

Friends will be received on Monday July 9th 2018 from 2p-4p and 6p-8p in the Noll Funeral Home Inc., 333 Third Street, Beaver PA 15009. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday July 10th, 2018 in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ambridge PA at 10a.m. Online condolences may be made at www.nollfuneral.com Interment to follow in Beaver Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Beaver County Humane Society.
