William H. Steele, 93, of Cranberry Township, formerly of Beaver, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015, at Oak Grove Center, Sherwood Oaks.
Born August 26, 1922 in Rochester, he was a son of the late John C. and Bertha Taylor Steele. William retired from Bruce Mansfield as the plant’s chief engineer after nearly 10 years, previously working in that capacity for St. Joe Mineral Corporation, and as a project manager for Foster McCarl. He had also worked for P&LE and Northern Pacific Railroads. After retiring, he and his wife worked 10 years as missionaries in Africa with the Global Missions of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Bill had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and he was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, Beaver, where he taught Sunday School and coached the church youth basketball team. He was a member of the Community Bible Study, former Beaver Area School Board member for 12 years, former board member of the BCRC and Beaver Area Memorial Library.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Jeanne Steele in 2007, three sisters, Helen Bair, Jean Steele, and Ruth Steele.
He will be sadly missed by his five daughters and sons-in-law, Donna (Robert) Martsolf, Cincinnati,OH, Brenda (Stuart) Burton, Grove City, OH, Linda (Randall) Ankrom, Marietta, OH, Barbara (Glen) Hogsett, Clearwater, FL, and Martha (Dale) Schartner, Beaver, eleven cherished grandchildren and their spouses, LeeAnn Hostler, Grant (Christy) Martsolf, Rebecca (Michael) Russell, Joshua (Sarah) Burton, Wendy (Peter Chang) Ankrom, Kimberly (Troy Vogel) Ankrom, Kirstin (Rich) Lukas, Lauren Hogsett, Abigail (Nate) Beukema, Rachel and Grace Schartner, and 12 great-grandchildren, Brady and Alyson Grace Hostler, Alexa and Cassidy Russell, Isaac and Aaron Comisar, Vera Chang, Purslane and Knox Martsolf, Ainsley and Josephine Burton, and Benjamin Vogel. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Noll Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Third St., Beaver. A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Jeffrey A. Arnold at First Presbyterian Church, Beaver, Friday, October 30, 2015 at 11:00 am followed by a private interment at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in William’s name to the Timothy Fund, c/o First Presbyterian Church, 252 College Avenue, Beaver, PA 15009. The Timothy Fund provides scholarships for high school students enabling them to pursue a college education.
